Not a day goes by with out reading about some horrendous crime in the Chronicle, the Tomball Sun or a local community newsletter. We are all admonished to "be watchful of strangers in the store parking lot". "don't open your door to strangers". "keep your doors locked". These are all good and sound advice. But what if you still don't feel safe? What are your options; self defense classes, an alarm system for the house and car, perhaps a guard dog to keep at your side whenever possible, a firearm perhaps? We each have to evaluate for ourselves what would make us feel secure. But if, like most people who live in Texas, there is a gun in your house or if you are considering the purchase of a firearm, may I make a suggestion? Visit Jim Pruett's Guns & Ammo on Huffmeister. You may already know the Pruett's. If you have never visited a gun store before, this is the place to begin. Jim, wife Joy and son Eric are very knowledgeable about firearms and everything that goes along with firearms. During my visit the place was doing a brisk business. Each person who came through was treated like an old friend and was given all the time and attention needed to make a satisfied customer. I particularly appreciated the time they took to talk to me about concealed handgun classes, gun safety classes, and the ins-and-outs of obtaining a concealed handgun license. By the way, son Sam is the instructor for the classes. Did you know that applying for a concealed handgun license requires that you pass a training course in addition to completing an application? I didn't. Probably most women don't Did you know that if you have a concealed weapon in your car and are stopped, you had better have a license to carry the concealed weapon? Big trouble if you don't. The law doesn't care if it IS your husband's/boyfriend's/Daddy's gun. You were in the car with it and YOU don't have a license to have a concealed handgun. ...You had better make a short trip down Huffmeister and at least visit with the Pruett's to find out about classes they offer in getting a concealed handgun license if you don't have one. Or if you had one and it expired. Better still, go on down and see what they have and tell them you're one of the their neighbors just stopping in to say Hi. Talk to you next time.......
