Thanks for your response. I have tried the xd. I loved the quality of the gun. The features were great too. The .40 was a bit thick for my hand. If I went with them, it would have to be the 9mm. I held several Glocks at the gun show last weekend. There were a couple of models that allowed a person with a smaller hand to properly wield the weapon. So far the Glock is my gun of choice. I have not fired or held the HK. I don't want to rule that out just yet. As for revolvers, I have nothing against them. I fancy the S&W Airweight for a conceal carry so long as you don't go above a 38 special. After that the kick gets a bit out of hand. My first choice for home defense will always be a shotgun, but since I also plan to occasionally carry the weapon, a handgun was really my only option. Carrying a shotgun to the grocery store to pick up milk doesn't really convey a message that I want associated with me (unless their customer service is REALLY REALLY bad).
I need some help picking out a home defense handgun. I went to the George R. Brown this last weekend to get some ideas. I had some requirements: 1. I wanted NO exposed hammer (double action only) 2. It could be no smaller than a 9mm and nothing larger than .45 cal. (An HPD detective recommended a .40 cal) 3. The barrel could be no longer than 4" because I will occasionally use it as my concealed carry 4. I DO NOT have large hands so size is a factor 5. I am open-minded and not against revolvers. I'm open to anything that falls into that realm
If anybody is extremely happy with the experience they've had with a handgun that meets the previous requirements, leave some feedback. If there is anything you can't stand, I'm interested in what to stay away from too. I just need some starting points for research. I'm not too concerned with price since this could potentially be a life saving device. The right choice would be worth any extra money.
